چکیده
Pasture conditions influence the nutrients use efficiency and nitrogen (N) losses from deposited excreta. Part of N is lost as nitrous oxide (N 2 O), a potent greenhouse gas. The objective this study was to characterize apparent recovery in milk dual-purpose cattle quantify O emissions urine they deposit following grazing on Megathyrsus maximus cv. Mombasa. content grass produced by urea (MUN) were quantified two contrasting regions Colombia (Casanare Atlántico). Dry matter intake (DMI) estimated using Cornell Net Carbohydrate Protein System. We used closed static chamber technique measure soils areas with without patches (21 days Atlántico 35 Days Casanare). Estimated DMI values 11.5 11.6 kg DM day −1 , production 6.5 5.9 L 24 23%, MUN 4.4 17.2 mg dl Casanare Atlántico, respectively. applied soil form corresponded at rates 20 64 g m −2 net cumulative 350 O-N Despite low digestibility offered diet, above reported dairy tropical conditions. High urine-N inputs site did not result high suggesting that default Tier 1 emission factor (EF) which based would have overestimated urine-based Atlántico. Comparing previous studies conducted Colombia, we observed inter-regional differences emissions. This observation suggests increase certainty estimating emissions, needs move toward more region-specific EF reduce its dependence IPCC EF. In addition, adoption sector will facilitate accounting for effect animal diets inventories.

Soil formate regulates the fungal nitrous oxide emission pathway.
Fungal activity is a major driver in the global nitrogen cycle, and mounting evidence suggests that fungal denitrification activity contributes significantly to soil emissions of the greenhouse gas nitrous oxide (N(2)O). The metabolic pathway and oxygen requirement for fungal denitrification are different from those for bacterial denitrification. We hypothesized that the soil N(2)O emission fro...
متن کاملNitrous oxide emission by aquatic macrofauna.
A large variety of aquatic animals was found to emit the potent greenhouse gas nitrous oxide when nitrate was present in the environment. The emission was ascribed to denitrification by ingested bacteria in the anoxic animal gut, and the exceptionally high N(2)O-to-N(2) production ratio suggested delayed induction of the last step of denitrification. Filter- and deposit-feeding animal species s...

i Summary/Zusammenfassung ii Summary Evaluation of dual purpose cowpea varieties for dry season feeding of ruminant animals Cowpea is of major importance to the livelihoods of millions of people in the tropics. Resource-poor smallholder farmers derive food, animal feed, cash and manure from the crop. Dual purpose cowpea has the potential to function as a key integrating factor in intensifying s...
متن کاملEffect of Intermittent Drainage on Nitrous Oxide Emission and Global Warming Potential in Rice Paddy Soil
Water control is mainly one of the key factors that can affect nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from soils. This study was undertaken to determine the effect of intermittent drainage compared to continuous flooding (conventional water regime) on N2O emission to global warming potential (GWP) with NPK (standard cultivation practice), NPK+Straw, and PK fertilizations. Nitrous oxide emission rates we...

A nitrogen (N) source comparison study was conducted to further evaluate the effects of inorganic N source and placement on growing-season and non-crop period soil nitrous oxide (NO). Commercially available controlled-release N fertilizers were evaluated for their potential to reduce NO emissions from a clay loam soil compared with conventionally used granular urea and urea-ammonium nitrate (UA...
